Sahyog trust is aiming to spread its pro-rights activities throughout Maharashtra, but we have a limited capacity to help and can’t reach out to everyone. Therefore we are planning to train more lawyers from Pune city as well as from nearby districts to lead this forward.
For funding our work, we rely on private donors. In order to further pursue the mission, we have started exploring various fundraising strategies and already developed a concept called ‘Adopt a lawyer’. This program will enable donors to ‘adopt’ a social lawyer, funding his training expenses at HRLD.
Additionally, they are trying to promote the idea that lawyers should work towards imparting social justice in their work and strive to protect Human Rights. This should actually be part of their formal education, by including a more socio-legal approach at the law colleges, but it hasn’t happened so far.
The overall goal of HRLD is to guarantee every human’s fundamental rights by individual aid and by working towards legislative changes. In criminal cases, legal assistance should be considered as a fundamental right of the rich as well as the poor in its real sense on implementation levels.
